2414: Firehouse won the Favorite Heavy Metal/Hard Rock New Artist at the 1992 American Music Awards, beating which two bands whose singers have since passed away?
A. Firehouse beat Alice in Chains and Nirvana, both of which lost their some years later. Kurt Cobain died on April 5, 1994, then Layne Staley on Apr 5, 2002.
“When we won the best hard rock/ heavy metal band award on the American Music Awards back in 1991 and that was like the beginning of the end,” said Firehouse vocalist C.J. Snare in a 2005 interview with Rock Eyez, “we were up against Alice in Chains and Nirvana! Now, I’m the only singer out of that category still living! (laughs)”
While true, that’s a pretty gross thing to have a laugh about.
