METAL TRIVIA ANSWERS: Lzzy Hale, Earth + more

HI, metal friend!
Behold, the metal trivia questions and answers for last week.

MON: Lzzy Hale sings and plays guitar in what band from Pennsylvania?

A. That’s Halestorm! “It’s still just as exciting as it was when we were starting out,” said Lzzy in a 2014 interview with Gibson Guitars, “I’ve been in this band since I was 13. The four of us have been together for almost 13 years. It’s been crazy but we still have that same feeling we had when we were teenagers. A lot of our crew has been with us for six years. It’s a family and has kept us together. We have no backup plan. We are lifers in this. This is it.”

TUE: She said, “They all thought Ozzy was so uncool. So I thought, ‘Right, I’ll organise my own fucking festival.'”

A. According to this 2001 interview, it was Sharon Osbourne that started Ozzfest back in 1996. This came after suggesting that Ozzy perform at Lollapalooza and they laughed at her. Pro tip: don’t mess with Sharon.

WED: Lori S. formed what band 25 years ago? Witch Queen, Acid King, or Ace of Bass?

A. That’d be Acid King, who came together in a way you’d expect a band called Acid King to come together.

“I met our first bass player through that ad,” said Lori S. in a 2015 interview with Iron Fist, “and then I was at a party and I yelled out ‘Is anyone here a drummer?’ and our current drummer yelled back ‘I’m a drummer!’ and that’s how he joined the band. That’s how Acid King formed; an ad in the paper and a drunken party.”

THU: Roses are Red, Violets are Dull, 10 years ago came Earth’s ‘The Bees Made Honey in the Lion’s…

A. Skull! The band Tweeted last week that it was the 10 year anniversary, released in 2008 on Southern Lord. “When I was developing a drum style for Earth, it was very much done to fit in with the music and to serve the songs—not to detract, but to add,” said drummer Adrienne Davies in a 2016 interview with Bandcamp, “I was very conscious of that recording and playing live. I think you also don’t want to be a one-trick pony. You don’t want it to be like, ‘Oh, that’s the girl that plays really slow.'”

FRI: Listen here to MOMENT OF METAL #270

A. That’s ‘Time Machine’ by Royal Thunder, from their 20015 album ‘Crooked Doors.’ “I made some bad choices with someone, and having this person in my life was really toxic for me,” said vocalist / bassist Mlny Parsonz in a 2015 interview with Rolling Stone, “The song is me realizing, ‘Oh, my God, I just wasted all this time.’ You just have to take something from an experience like that and learn from it.”
